CHEMISTRY AND ITS BRANCHES
Chemistry :
Definition:
Chemistry
is the branch of science that deals with the properties, composition and
structure of matter. Chemistry also deals with the changes involved in the
matter. It also deals with the principles .
1.
Physical Chemistry:
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the law and the principles governing the combination
of atoms and molecules in chemical reactions.
Or
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the relationship between the physical properties of
substances along with the chemical changes in them.
2. Inorganic Chemistry:
The study of all
elements and their compounds except hydrocarbons( organic compounds) and their
derivatives is called inorganic chemistry.
OR
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with chemistry of elements and their compounds, generally
obtained from non-living organisms i.e. from minerals.
3. Organic Chemistry
The branch of chemistry
in which we study the compounds of carbon and hydrogen called hydrocarbons and
their derivatives is called organic chemistry.
Or
The branch of chemistry
in which we study the compounds of carbon except carbonates, bicarbonates,
cyanides etc is called organic chemistry
4. Analytical Chemistry:
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the study of the methods and techniques involved to
determine the kind, quality and quantity of various components in a given
substance
5. Biochemistry:
The study of chemical
compounds present in living things is called biochemistry.
Or
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the study of synthesis, composition, decomposition
and chemical reaction of a substance,
which take place in living organisms is
called biochemistry.
6. Industrial Chemistry:
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the study of
techniques and chemical processes for the preparation of different industrial products are called industrial
chemistry.
E.g : cement, glass,
fertilizers etc.
7. Nuclear Chemistry:
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the study of changes occurring in the nuclei of
atoms, accompanied by the emission of invisible radiations.
8. Environmental Chemistry:
It is the branch of
chemistry that deals with the study of the interaction of chemical materials
and their effect on the environment of animals and plants.
